In mei 1979 organiseerde de linkse actiegroep De Rooie Vlinder de eerste homobetoging in Antwerpen. Ze eisten voor het eerst expliciet “een ander strand”. In plaats van de vraag om acceptatie en integratie van de LGBTQIA+ community in de bestaande heteronormatieve maatschappij, namen zij geen vrede meer met die minderheidsstatus. Met de slogan “Janetten de straat op” rekenden ze niet enkel meer op de solidariteit van anderen maar in de eerste plaats op die van hun chosen family. Naar aanleiding daarvan daagt Send In The Clowns voor deze Pride editie een cast van SITC alumni uit om de hand uit te reiken naar hun co-stars en samen een act op poten te zetten. Want: a family that drags together, stays together.
Natuurlijk verwelkomen we graag iedereen die in drag wil langskomen. The more Marys, the merrier! Daarom trakteren we alle aanwezigen in drag op een paar drankjes van het huis.

In may ‘79 the left-wing activist group ‘De Rooie Vlinder’ organized the first gay protest in Antwerp, where they demanded “a different beach”. Instead of asking for acceptance and integration of the LGBTQIA+ community into the existing heteronormative society, they didn’t want to settle anymore for this minority status. With the slogan “Faggots on the street”, they no longer just counted on solidarity from others, but first and foremost they found support in their chosen family. That’s why, for the next Pride edition of Send In The Clowns, we’ve challenged a cast of SITC alumni to reach out to their co-stars to put on a show. Because a family that drags together, stays together.
